Petrifaction and Mineralogy
George Mustoe is an expert in the fields of geochemistry and mineralogy, with a career spanning over 50 years. Throughout his extensive research endeavors, he has contributed to a diverse range of projects. In recent decades, his focus has primarily centered around Cenozoic paleontology and paleobotany. Utilizing analytical geochemistry techniques, as well as optical and electron microscopy, George has extensively studied the process of fossilizationIn particular, he is fascinated by the processes that create petrified wood. George retired from Western Washington University in 2014 but continues to maintain an active role as a Research Associate, furthering his contributions to the scientific community.
